Comparison of the EMG Activity of Shoulder Muscles according to Arm Position during Prone Arm Lift Exercise

Background Full-can exercise was associated with a significantly higher scapulohumeral rhythm than empty-can exercise. These findings suggest that the movements of scapula and glenohumeral joint are affected by position arm. Purpose We investigated effect arm on muscle activity scapular upward rotators during prone lift Study design Cross-sectional study Methods Thirty-two healthy subjects were participated in this study. The serratus anterior (SA), upper trapezius (UT), lower (LT), infraspinatus (IS) measured using surface electromyography device. All asked to perform according three positions: palm down (PD), neutral (NT), up (PU). One-way repeated analysis variance conducted. Results EMG activities UT, LT, SA different among conditions (PU vs. NT PD; p<0.05). UT LT PD PU (p<0.017). However, IS not (p>0.05). Conclusions Prone for strengthening is recommended be performed position.
